Oscar Allen
Teacher of LAMDA & Drama
Biography
Oscar’s family have a history of working within the arts, having spent most of his childhood watching his parents work behind the scenes at the Dean Clough Galleries in Halifax. Getting lost amongst photography, paintings and installation art, it wasn’t until he was asked to sit quietly behind the lighting desk at the Viaduct Theatre that he truly fell in love.
Since that moment, Oscar’s life has revolved around performance and the dramatic arts in one way or another – starting with finding his voice and confidence through Harrogate Youth Theatre and a smorgasbord of youth theatre stage productions he starred in. The most enduring of these was his early involvement in Gi60 – The International One Minute Theatre Festival (A production that he has continued to perform in annually, and occasionally write for, all the way up to its latest iteration in 2024).
While juggling his A-levels and BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Performing Arts, Oscar managed to secure a role in the premiere of Dennis Kelly’s ‘DNA’ and went on his first theatre production tour, performing at Harrogate Theatre, Georgian Theatre Royal, Brewery Arts Centre and The Royal National Theatre in London.
Following this up with an exciting opportunity as part of the ensemble in the West Yorkshire Playhouse production of His Dark Materials, Oscar’s love for the theatre and performance was by this time absolutely set in stone.
Current Work
As a working professional Oscar has continued to perform and write for the aforementioned international play festival Gi60, provides his voice to various businesses and advertisers as a Voiceover Artist from his home studio and focuses on Youth Theatre education, which he passionately believes is the perfect opportunity for young people to truly find themselves.
